About GearTier
What is GearTier?
GearTier is a free platform for creating, sharing, and voting on ranked gear lists. Whether you're comparing flashlights, rating hiking boots, or ranking mechanical keyboards, GearTier makes it easy to organize recommendations into tier lists and share them with anyone.
Our Methodology
GearTier rankings are built from review consensus — we aggregate recommendations and ratings from expert reviewers and trusted publications rather than relying on arbitrary user voting alone. Each list cites its sources so you can verify the reasoning behind every ranking.
This approach means GearTier lists reflect a broad, evidence-based view of how products compare, not just one person's opinion. Community votes layer on top of the editorial foundation to surface the lists that resonate most.
How Rankings Work
- Research — Sources are gathered from expert reviews, publications, and hands-on testing.
- Organize — Products are placed into tiers (S, A, B, C, etc.) based on consensus performance across sources.
- Publish & Vote — Lists are published for the community to view, vote on, and fork with their own modifications.
Editorial Standards
- Rankings are based on verifiable, cited sources.
- Lists include direct links to products so readers can check pricing and availability themselves.
- Affiliate links are clearly disclosed at the bottom of every list page.
- Anyone can fork a list to create their own version — all forks link back to the original.
Open & Anonymous
GearTier does not require accounts. You can create, edit, share, and vote on lists without signing up. Edit access is controlled via private edit links — only people with the link can modify a list.
